Flame Breathing A

Trainer Rengu · 5 forms · Unlocks at level 25 · Slayer path only

Flame trades mobility for raw damage. Its forms hit hard and slow, which is ideal against boss HP bars, and the V0.2 balance pass made its counter answer skills as well as basic attacks. Pair it with the Rengoku clan — it has the highest damage bonus of any clan in the game.

Where this tier comes from: A on 3 of 5 lists; Pro Game Guides and UrGameTips place it S after the V0.2 balance pass. Within one tier across all sources.

The training tasks

Rengu sets six tasks: the shared five, plus a field task and a final fight with the Flame Trainee. The tasks unlock one at a time and the quest marker leads to each training area.

  1. Meditation — Butterfly Mansion, second-room mat. Click each time the moving bar crosses the white marker until the meter fills.
  2. Cup Training — Butterfly Mansion, third-room mat. Pick the cup hiding the coin 10 times — a wrong pick costs one of three lives and the shuffle speeds up each round.
  3. Push Ups — Butterfly Mansion, push-up mat. Click each white circle as the inner ring touches its edge. Standing up with a red aura means the set failed.
  4. Aim Training — Butterfly Mansion, shooting range. Click the targets as they pop up on the boards.
  5. Field task — Varies by style (Boulder Split, parkour dungeon, underwater rocks…). Each style has one field task before the final fight — follow the quest marker.
  6. Trainee fight — Your trainer's training ground. Beat the style's Trainee NPC to unlock the style, then spend skill points on its forms in the Skill Tree.

Task spots follow the shared Butterfly Mansion mini-games reported across the breathing guides; each style's field task differs. Winning the trainee fight unlocks the style — then open the Skill Tree and spend your points on the forms.

A on 3 of 5 lists; Pro Game Guides and UrGameTips place it S after the V0.2 balance pass. Within one tier across all sources. Best for: boss farming, dungeons and players who like big numbers.

What is the best clan for Flame Breathing?

Rengoku is the style-matched pick — flame Breathing and aggressive Katana builds; it has the highest damage bonus of any clan, and Ignition Hit makes every basic-attack string open with a burn. Kamado and Kaneki are the usual backups.

Can demons learn Flame Breathing?

No — demons cannot learn breathing. Their equivalent is a random blood demon art roll after conversion. Switching paths later resets your breathing progress, so this is a one-way street worth deciding early.

How Flame Breathing compares to the other styles

Within the tier list, Flame Breathing's identity is its highest raw damage per form. The honest way to compare styles is by what they demand of you: Thunder demands hit-and-run discipline, Flame punishes whiffed openers, Water rewards patience, Serpent and Insect reward spacing, Stone rewards commitment, Wind rewards aggression, and Sound rewards positioning in group fights. None of that shows up in a tier letter — but all of it decides whether a style works for you. The fee matters too: at 6,000 Wen, Flame Breathing is one of the pricier unlocks, so factor the fee into your reroll math.

Skill tree order for Flame Breathing

The style unlocks as a kit, but skill points decide how fast it becomes dangerous. The community-tested order: Form 1 first — your opener (Unknowing Fire) is the move you land most often, so its damage scales your whole game. Form 2 next (Rising Scorching Sun) for combo continuation, then Wall Climb and Double Jump if you have not bought them yet (trainer access and Final Selection both need them). Forms 3-5 (Blazing Universe, Flame Tiger, Rengoku) follow as Wen allows — the last two forms are the biggest single jumps but also the most expensive, so take them when farming pays comfortably rather than at the edge of your balance. Every form sits on its own cooldown, which means each new form adds uptime, not just damage: by form three you should rarely be auto-attacking while waiting.

Where Flame Breathing shines — and where it struggles

Best content for Flame Breathing

  • Its niche content — highest raw damage per form defines the matchup.
  • Boss farming — its opener punishes the moments bosses stand still.
  • Quest waves — burn damage over time keeps the pack clear moving.
  • Dungeon runs — consistent forms pair well with damage-boosting cards.

Matchups to respect

  • −Slower startup than Thunder
  • −Easy to punish in a duel if the opening whiffs
  • −Limited mobility tools
  • −Facing an S-tier style without your own answer to it

The practical read: Flame Breathing rewards boss play, and its weaknesses are all punish windows — slower startup than thunder. Every style in the game can beat every other in the right hands; tier lists describe the cost of getting there, not a verdict.
